Ft Loudoun & Colonial Frontier

  • Cross Keys Village Theater 2990 Carlisle Pike New Oxford, PA, 17350 United States (map)

Fort Loudoun Historical Society President Michael Strausner will present a talk entitled “How Fort Loudoun Shaped Pennsylvania’s Colonial Frontier” as part of New Oxford Area society’s Afternoon History Series and America 250 programming. Strausner’s presentation will offer a glimpse into the rich and powerful history of the fort’s past and the work that is being undertaken to resurrect its significance and prominence during the period of the French and Indian War and in advance of the American Revolution.

Fort Loudoun is located along the western edge of today’s Cumberland Valley. It was one of several forts in colonial Pennsylvania built during the French & Indian War. The fort served as a post on the Forbes Road during the Forbes expedition that successfully drove the French away from Fort Duquesne. It remained occupied through Pontiac's War and in 1765 it was the epicenter of the famed Black Boys Rebellion. All of these events became powerful forces that led to the shaping of the frontier attitude that forged this region’s powerful response to events in Boston and the American Revolution.

The May 12th program will be held in the CKV Theater, located within the Harmony Ridge Community Center, Harmony Drive, Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA. The program is free and open to the public.
